What is the purpose of a business recording transactions?

What’s the point of all this business record-keeping, you ask? Ugh, bookkeeping, right? It’s a total drag, I get it. But seriously, tracking every single transaction – even the tiny ones, like that $2 coffee I totally needed to stay awake during that client call – is absolutely essential. Otherwise, how on earth would I know if my little business is actually making money, or just slowly bleeding it away? I mean, I once spent three weeks trying to figure out where a whole chunk of cash had vanished to, and let me tell you, it was not fun.

It’s a sanity saver, honestly. Knowing where every penny goes – or at least, trying my best to – keeps me from freaking out. It helps me sleep better, because I can actually see what’s working and what’s…not so much. I can make actual plans for the future, instead of just hoping for the best. Plus, tax time? Don’t even get me started. I used to be a complete mess, buried under mountains of receipts, practically having a nervous breakdown. Now? It’s still a bit of a hassle, but nothing like before.
