How to drink soup in Vietnam?
How to eat soup politely in Vietnam? Etiquette guide?
Okay, so, like, eating soup in Vietnam? I've been there (Hoi An, August last year, remember that amazing Cao Lau for like $2?), and it's kinda chill, not super uptight like fancy European dining.
Noodles: Chopsticks all the way for those slippery noodles. Get a good grip!
Broth: Spoon, definitely spoon. Or, tbh, lift the bowl and drink it. I did. No regrets. Best part!
Seriously, that broth... I could live on pho broth alone. I even saw some people drink it right from the bowl after finishing up the noodles. Felt totally normal.
- Seasoning: Go easy on the extras at first. Taste it, then add chili or lime (or whatever they have) slowly.
One time (Da Nang, March), I dumped a whole bunch of chili oil in and almost cried. Lesson learned. Add slowly. Trust me on this one. I swear.
