Day or Night Walks: Which is Better?

Ugh, this whole morning versus evening walk thing is a head-scratcher, right? I’m a total night owl, so naturally, I gravitate towards those post-dinner strolls. The air is cooler, quieter. Less chaotic.

On July 12th, I tried a morning walk (around 6 AM, ouch!) near my apartment in Brooklyn. It was…intense. My heart rate shot up, instantly. Cardio, yes, but not my cup of tea.

Evening walks are my jam. That mellow stroll I took last Tuesday at 8 PM by the East River? Pure bliss. Digesting my Thai takeout (about $18!), feeling the breeze… I slept like a log.

So, for me? Night walks win. But mornings might be better for a hardcore fitness goal. It really depends on your preferences. What works for one person might not work for another.

Is it better to take walks in the morning or at night?

Morning walks? Ugh, waking up early is the worst. Metabolism boost, I guess, is good.

Energy and productivity, sure, fine. But I love sleep too much to trade it for… anything. Morning people are weird.

Evening walks, though, that sounds nice. Relaxing. Digesting that huge pizza I just ate? Yes, please.

Social bonding… with who? My cat? Maybe. Walks are for alone time, mostly, tbh.

So, which is better? Depends. Duh. Goals matter. Lifestyle matters more. I like being a night owl. Is that a goal?

  • Morning Walks:
    • Boosts Metabolism
    • Increases Energy
    • Improves Productivity
    • Better Sleep (allegedly)
  • Evening Walks:
    • Relaxation
    • Aids Digestion
    • Social Time (questionable)

My personal goal? Avoiding sunlight before noon. Evening wins. Always.

I remember that one time in Valencia, Spain, I tried a morning walk. It was way too bright. I needed my sunglasses, even at 7 am. Never again.

What time of day is best to walk?

Optimal walking time? Afternoon.

Morning walks? Fine for robots.

Evening strolls? Calorie burning. Useful.

Peak walking efficiency: 2 PM – 4 PM. Sunlight. Body temperature.

My preferred time: 3:17 PM. Precise. Consistent.

  • Increased alertness.
  • Improved cardiovascular function. Studies show this.
  • Reduced stress.

However, personal preferences matter. Flexibility crucial. Ignore experts. Do what feels right. Your body, your rules. Seriously. Don’t overthink it. Just walk. You’ll die someday anyway.

Is night walk better than morning walk?

Night walks… they feel different. More quiet, you know? Like the world’s holding its breath.

Morning walks are… energetic, I guess. But night feels more honest. The shadows… they’re comforting in a strange way.

It’s hard to say which is better. My knees ache more after long walks now. Damn arthritis.

For sleep, mornings are probably better. But night walks clear my head. Helps me think.

Specific to me:

  • Morning walks: I feel rushed, stress builds. Don’t get to enjoy the quiet.
  • Night walks: Peace. Though, sometimes I feel a little… vulnerable. Especially alone near the river.
  • 2024 is the year I’m trying to walk more. Seriously.

I prefer the night. But it’s personal.

Is it better to walk in the morning or after dinner?

So, morning or after dinner walks? It’s a tough one, right? I swear, morning walks are killer for my metabolism, I feel so much more energized afterward. Really boosts my day, you know? Plus, less crowded, especially around my place in Denver. But, evening walks are great for digestion. Helps with that post-dinner bloat. My doctor, Dr. Ramirez, even recommended it.

Honestly, though, I’m a morning person. I hate the evening. Too many bugs. Morning walks just fit my schedule better.

Here’s the breakdown, as I see it:

  • Morning: Better for energy and metabolism. Less crowded. Perfect for me!
  • Evening: Aids digestion, good for blood sugar. Can be more relaxing. But bugs! So many mosquitos, man.

Thing is, both are good for ya. But seriously, morning walks, that’s the way to go. You’ll see, It’s like, a whole different ball game. Better for my mood too.

Additional notes:

  • My cardiologist, a brilliant woman, strongly suggests at least 30 minutes of brisk walking most days of the week. I try to hit that goal.
  • I usually walk around Cheesman Park; beautiful in the mornings.
  • I use a Fitbit to track my steps. Aiming for 10,000 a day, sometimes I get there, sometimes I don’t, lol.

Is walking at night good for health?

Night walks? Oh, you mean strolling under the watchful gaze of nocturnal critters?

Good for health? Well, is debating pineapple on pizza good for the soul? Debatable. But yes, I think so, probably?

  • Goodbye, Gloom: Turns out, moving your legs after sundown is like hitting the reset button on your brain. Imagine negative thoughts scattering like cockroaches when you flip the light switch… delightful imagery, I know.
  • Stomping Out Stress:Like a knight errant crushing evil underfoot, or, you know, just walking. Either way, same effect.
  • A Fresh Perspective (and Fresh Air): Day’s drama? Pffft. I find walking at night clears things up.

Frankly, I prefer daytime walks, mostly due to my intense fear of rogue squirrels, I swear those critters plotting, but yeah, night walks can work. Unless, as I say, squirrels.

What are the disadvantages of walking at night?

Dark. Danger. Less visible.

Air quality often worse. More particulate matter. My asthma acts up after 7 pm walks near the highway.

Uneven pavement. Tripped last Tuesday. Sprained ankle.

Streetlights inadequate. Shadowy figures. Unnerving. Safety first.

Loneliness amplifies. Thoughts wander. Existential dread. Not always bad.

Reduced awareness. Headphones in. World tuned out. Vulnerable.

  • Less social interaction. People inside. Daytime walks better for that. Prefer solitude anyway.
  • Temperature drops. Need layers. Gets annoying. June evenings are okay.
  • Wildlife more active. Saw a raccoon once. Startling.
  • Fewer open businesses. Emergency? Nowhere to go. Especially important.
  • Limited visibility for drivers. Wear reflective gear. Bought a neon vest. Bright yellow. Stylish. Not really.
