How long can you stay on a 651 visa?

Understanding the Duration of an Australian eVisitor Visa (Subclass 651)

The eVisitor visa (subclass 651) is a convenient option for visitors seeking short-term stays in Australia. It grants multiple entries, with each visit typically lasting up to three months. However, it's crucial to understand the overall duration limitations associated with this visa.

Duration of Each Visit

As mentioned, each visit to Australia under an eVisitor visa typically lasts for up to three months. This period begins from the date of entry into the country. It's important to note that the authorized duration may vary based on individual circumstances and can be less than three months in certain cases.

Overall Duration Within a Year

While each visit may last up to three months, the total duration of stay within a 12-month period is capped. This 12-month period is determined by the date the visa was granted, not the first date of entry into Australia.

The maximum overall duration within a year for an eVisitor visa varies based on the passport holder's nationality. For most countries, the maximum allowable stay is 12 months. However, there are some exceptions, so it's essential to check the specific details for your passport.

Compliance and Planning

To ensure compliance with the duration limitations of the eVisitor visa, it's crucial to plan your visits carefully. Consider the following tips:

• Track Your Stays: Note the start and end dates of each visit.
• Monitor Your Overall Duration: Keep track of the total time spent in Australia within the 12-month period.
• Plan Ahead: If you anticipate staying longer than the maximum allowable duration, apply for an appropriate extension or change of visa status.
• Respect the Conditions: Failure to comply with the duration conditions may result in penalties or visa cancellation.

By following these recommendations, you can ensure a compliant and enjoyable stay in Australia under the eVisitor visa (subclass 651).
