Can I Backdate a Congestion Charge?
The Congestion Charge is a daily charge for driving a vehicle within the Congestion Zone in central London. The charge operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, except Christmas Day (25 December).
Amending a Congestion Charge is possible, but only for current or future start dates. Past charges cannot be modified.
To amend a Congestion Charge, you will need to contact Transport for London (TfL) and provide them with the following information:
- Your vehicle registration number
- Receipt details
- The original charge start date
TfL will then amend the charge start date to the date you request.
Important:
- You can only amend a Congestion Charge if you have already paid the charge.
- You can only amend a Congestion Charge up to 24 hours after the original charge start date.
- You cannot amend a Congestion Charge if you have already received a penalty charge notice (PCN).

You can contact TfL by:
- Phone: 0343 222 2222
