What can someone do with my cheque?

Okay, so you're worried about someone getting their hands on your cheque, huh? I get it! It's a valid concern. I mean, in this day and age, you just never know, do you?

So, what can someone actually do with your stolen cheque? Well, the scariest thing is probably check washing. Basically, these fraudsters, they're like super-sneaky chemists (not really, but you get the idea!). They can actually erase the writing on your cheque – things like who you wrote it to and how much it was for – using chemicals. Crazy, right? And then, get this, they rewrite it! They make themselves the payee and often bump up the amount to something way bigger. Can you imagine? It's like your cheque gets a whole new (and totally fraudulent!) identity!
