Is there a plural form of it?

The plural of it is they. While traditionally used for people, they is now widely accepted as the singular and plural pronoun for impersonal things or when gender is unknown. For example: I like my cars. They run well.

Okay, so someone asked if “it” has a plural… that’s a good question!

Honestly, it’s a bit of a grammar head-scratcher, isn’t it? Technically, yeah, the plural of “it” is “they.” I know, right? It sounds weird at first because we usually think of “they” as referring to people. But think about it: “They” is actually increasingly accepted as the pronoun to use, even when we’re talking about just one thing, especially when we don’t know the gender or, you know, when we just don’t want to assume.

But back to “it.” The whole “they” thing as a plural for “it” is more for impersonal things. Like, if I’m talking about my cars, I wouldn’t say “it runs well.” No way. I’d naturally say, “I like my cars. They run well.” See? “They” steps in perfectly. I mean, could you imagine trying to say, “I like my cars. It runs well”? It just doesn’t sound right, does it? So, yeah, while it might bend your brain a little, “they” is the answer. And you know what? Language is always changing, isn’t it? Who knows what pronouns we’ll be using in another ten years!
