What does long view mean? Definition & Examples

Okay, so "long view" huh? Like, what's that even mean?

The long view, simply put, is looking at stuff with an eye towards the future. Thinking about how what you do now will impact things down the line. I guess.

Honestly, I used to be terrible at this. Impulsive buys all the time, like that sweet guitar amp I got at Guitar Center on Bleeker St, NYC, back in '08 (cost a pretty penny, like $700) only to realize I'd hardly use it? That was me. No long view there.

It means understanding that quick fixes ain't always the best. Like, constantly eating junk food might feel good now, but your body's gonna hate you later. Trust me, my gut knows.

Now? I try to think ahead. Especially with my money. It's kinda like planting a tree - you gotta think past tomorrow's shade, ya know? You want shade years from now. This change for me, started summer '21, after, well let's just say, 'a tough financial situation' where I felt like I wasn't thinking about what I really wanted years from then, only what felt easy right then.

It involves strategy, foresight and basically considering the future results of present activity, avoiding short term action which may have negative implications in the future.

It's a strategic approach that helps you make smarter decisions, less of the "oops, didn't see that coming" kinda moments. I'm still learning, don't get me wrong, but at least now I'm looking past next Tuesday.
