What are the top 10 longest movies of all time?

Okay, so longest movies, huh? This is tricky. I'm not a movie buff, more of a "Netflix and chill" kind of person. But I did some digging, mostly because I'm curious now.

Logistics (2012) takes the crown, apparently. Seriously long.

Then there's Modern Times Forever (2011), another epic in Helsinki – I saw a documentary about insanely long films once, and this one was mentioned.

Next up: Cinématon (2009). I've never even heard of these.

Beijing 2003 (2004) is on the list too. I honestly can't picture sitting through these things.

Untitled #125 (2011), Matrjoschka (2006), The Cure for Insomnia (1987), and The Longest Most Meaningless Movie (1968) round out the top 10. Crazy, right?

I have no personal experience watching any of these. They sound... intense. My attention span isn't exactly legendary. Probably explains why I stick to sitcoms.

Which is the longest duration movie in cinema?

Resan (The Journey), that behemoth, clocks in at a mind-boggling 873 minutes. Think of it – longer than my last trip to my grandma's house and that involved a detour to get ice cream! Fourteen hours and thirty-three minutes of cinematic bliss, or torture, depending on your tolerance for epic poems made into films.

Seriously, who has that kind of time? I mean, I could probably learn Klingon in less time. Or knit a sweater for a giant squid.

Next up, we have Exergue – on documenta 14, a mere 848 minutes. A measly 14 hours and 8 minutes. Almost as long as my cat sleeps in a day. Psh, amateur hour. It's like comparing a marathon to a brisk walk in the park.

Key Differences: One's a journey (literally, probably), the other is... documentary stuff. Probably involves lots of people talking. My least favorite!

I'd rather watch paint dry. Actually, I bet watching paint dry would be shorter. And more entertaining.

My cousin, Bob, tried watching Resan. He said it was like watching grass grow, only slower. He also needed a new couch.

  • Resan: Epic length. Possibly induces severe sleep deprivation. May require multiple bathroom breaks. Could potentially age you a few years.
  • Exergue: Still ridiculously long. Probably involves art snobs. Could bore you to tears quicker. Probably doesn't involve a magical carpet.

I'm sticking with rom-coms from now on. Much less time commitment, more laughs, and less chance of needing therapy afterward. My therapist's appointment's next Tuesday, anyway. 2:00 PM. Don't be late.

What movie has been in cinemas the longest?

Okay, longest movie run? Hmm. Rocky Horror Picture Show. Right? Yeah, I think so. But like, why that one? It's a cult classic, obviously.

  • Re-releases, that's key I bet. Keeps it going.
  • Is it good good or just, like, fun-weird good?

Wait, maybe there's something else? Nah, pretty sure. Okay, Rocky Horror it is. But man, the midnight showings! Those were wild!

Remember seeing it at the theater on Bleeker Street? Wow. That feels like a lifetime ago, almost. What are people even doing these days? Does anyone even go to those anymore?

  • My old Doc Martens... wore those to that.
  • I wonder if they still sell those shirts?

Thinking about it, is it even technically still running somewhere? Probably! It's Rocky Horror!
