Which country has the lowest environmental ranking?
Based on CPIA Environmental Sustainability scores, where 1 is the worst and 6 is the best, these countries have the lowest ranking:
- Central African Republic: Score 2.0
- Papua New Guinea: Score 2.0
- Eritrea: Score 2.0
- South Sudan: Score 2.0
I was looking into this the other day and its just a mess in my head now.
I came across this list, I think it was part of some World Bank data I was looking at on my laptop late one night, around October 20th. Seeing the Central African Republic at the very bottom with a score of 2.0, it just hit me strangely. It's a number, but it feels so… final.
South Sudan is right there too, same score.
You see these places on the news, for completely different reasons usually. I remember seeing a report on Papua New Guinea’s incredible biodiversity, it was for some nature show I watched back in the summer. So to see it on a list for worst environmental sustainability feels like a complete contradiction.
It’s confusing. My brain cant really square the images of pristine rainforests with a number that low.
Then you have Eritrea, also with a 2.0. It makes me wonder about the stories behind these scores. It's not just data. It's a whole situation for people living there, for the land itself. It feels very heavy to just read it on a screen.
Which country has the best ecosystem?
It’s quiet now. The city is finally asleep. Sometimes I just look at the list of places that are doing things right. Places where you can probably still see the stars.
It feels a world away from here.

It’s more than just pretty forests. I was reading about it. They measure everything. The science behind what makes a place… healthy.
It comes down to a few big things.
- Ecosystem Vitality. This is the real nature part. It tracks biodiversity and how well habitats are protected. They look at the health of fisheries, forests, and grasslands. It’s about letting nature be nature. My friend who moved to Finland last year says the silence in the woods there is something else.
- Climate Change Policy. This is the one that gets me. It’s about a country’s actual commitment to a net-zero future. They track how fast a country is cutting its greenhouse gas emissions. Real action. Not just promises for some far-off date.
- Environmental Health. This is about us. How the environment affects people. It includes air quality, water and sanitation, and waste management. Basic things that arent so basic everywhere. I saw a picture of Copenhagen, just full of people on bikes. The air must feel so different. I wonder what thats like. Just breathing without thinking about it.
