What was South Vietnam renamed?

Following its surrender in 1975, South Vietnam was unified with North Vietnam in 1976. The unified nation was renamed the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, marking the end of the separate states. Saigon, the former capital of South Vietnam, was also renamed Ho Chi Minh City.

What is South Vietnams name after the Vietnam War?

Okay, lemme try to explain this South Vietnam biz... It's kinda confusing, honestly.

After, like, everything fell apart in '75, with Saigon (that's the South's capital city, right?) surrendering, so many ppl took off. Fleeing the country. I get it.

Then, in '76, they smushed North and South Vietnam together, officially. Called it the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. A whole new deal, communist and all. Yeah.

So, South Vietnam as its own thang? It kinda just... disappeared. The capital, Saigon, even got a new name: Ho Chi Minh City. A real switch-up, I tell ya. That's what happened.

Now, my grandpa always talked about Saigon, even though he moved to Little Saigon, Westminster, California in the late 70s. Seemed like South Vietnam was always just... right there for him, even after the war. He even took a trip back, I think around 2005 maybe? He said it was different. A lot.

The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is the name of the country after the Vietnam War. South Vietnam ceased to exist when it surrendered in 1975. In 1976, North and South Vietnam were unified. Saigon was renamed Ho Chi Minh City.
