Why is mercury not allowed in airplanes?

Ugh, right? Why are people so careless sometimes?! It drives me absolutely bonkers. I mean, mercury thermometers are banned on airplanes, and for good reason. That stuff is seriously nasty – incredibly reactive, they say. I read somewhere that even a tiny spill could, like, eat through the aluminum of the plane. Can you even imagine? A catastrophic failure mid-flight? The sheer terror! My aunt, bless her heart, she’s a bit of a scatterbrain, and I swear she almost brought one on a flight once. I practically had a heart attack! I had to explain to her, very patiently (because, you know, family!), about the whole “plane falling out of the sky” thing.

Seriously, it’s not rocket science – it’s basic safety! And then you get people mispronouncing it, like it’s some fancy French word! It’s mercury, people! Like the planet! It’s not that hard! Safety precautions aren’t suggestions, they’re, well, vital. It’s just common sense, really, isn’t it? But common sense isn’t, sadly, all that common these days. We need to be more mindful, you know? Think about it – one tiny spill, and… well, let’s not even go there. The potential consequences are terrifying.
