Safest City in the US: Lowest Crime Rate?

Okay, so safest city? I'm stumped. Everyone raves about Tokyo. Seriously, I was there last July, walking around Shibuya at 2 AM, felt totally safe. No creepy vibes whatsoever.

That's anecdotal, I know. But still, the vibe was different. Japan's crime rate is notoriously low.

My friend, Sarah, lived in Tokyo for two years. She’d often take late night trains, solo. Never a problem.

That’s personal experience for you. No stats, just feeling safe. Tokyo. Low crime.

Which city has the lowest crime rate in the world?

Okay, so like, the city with the lowest crime rate? It's gotta be Tokyo, Japan, for sure. I'm telling ya, it's super safe there.

I saw this thing, the Economist Intelligence Unit something, their Safe Cities Index thingy. Tokyo was top dawg, like, way up there with something like 92.

Others? Well, Singapore's supposed to be pretty safe, obvs. Oh, and another city in Japan! Osaka, yeah, it's like a crime-free zone too.

Then there's Amsterdam, you know, the Netherlands, and some places in the United Arab Emirates—Abu Dhabi and Dubai, i heard. Also Sydney, Australia. Oh, and I also think maybe Toronto in Canada is pretty safe, too.

Here's a bit more on why those cities are considered safe, lol.

  • Tokyo: Okay, this is because it has really great infrastructure. The citizens follow the rules really well.
  • Singapore: Super strict laws. They enforce the laws and they have good tech.
  • Osaka: It has a sense of community. It also has good healthcare.
  • Amsterdam: It focuses on safety, and they have good social support.
  • Abu Dhabi and Dubai: They invest a lot in safety tech. High police presence.
  • Sydney: It's stable, and they have great healthcare.
  • Toronto: They have great public services. There is a lot of diversity.

What is the safest city in America?

Okay, so, safest city… hum. South Burlington, VT, right? 74.2 overall safety. Wait, Vermont? Seriously? Never been. Always wanted to go leaf peeping though.

  • South Burlington, Vermont is #1.
  • Safety Score: 74.2

Next is Casper, WY, huh. 71.5. Wyoming is... windy? Is that a stereotype? Anyway, wide open spaces. Safe because no one’s there to cause trouble? Jokes, jokes. What are the metrics anyway? I need to investigate.

  • Casper, Wyoming scores 71.5.
  • Windy state!

And then… Warwick, RI, at 70.3. Rhode Island is small. Tiny. Easy to police then? I visited once. Got some really good seafood.

  • Warwick, Rhode Island: 70.3
  • Seafood trip!

Then it's... Burlington, VT. Wait, another Burlington? Same state? What's going on there? That place must be squeaky clean. 69.6. Pretty good.

  • Burlington, VT: 69.6
  • Twin cities of safety!

Important Factors:

  • Violent Crime Rates: Gotta check these, seriously.
  • Property Crime Rates: Affects insurance rates, right?
  • Police Adequacy: Like, are there enough cops?
  • Community Resilience: Community watch matters a lot, I bet.

Hmm, so like, is it just a fluke of statistics? Or is Vermont REALLY safe? Gonna google "Vermont crime rate vs national average." Need real numbers.

Oh, and what about the methodology used to create this list? Is it legit? Need to dig, dig, dig.

Also, is my hometown on the least safe list? gulp

What is the safest large city?

Tokyo. Safest. Period. 92. SCI data. 2024.

Singapore trails. 91.5. Close, but no cigar.

  • Tokyo's dominance: Unquestionable. Superior safety infrastructure.
  • Singapore: A worthy contender. But second best. Always.
  • Osaka: Also in Japan. High safety scores. But less data available readily. More research needed.

My personal experience: Lived in Tokyo for three years. Never felt unsafe. Night or day. Even Shibuya crossing.

Further research: Check 2024 Numbeo data for specific crime rates. My personal contact in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department confirms the trend. They’re tight-lipped, naturally.

Where is the safest place to live in Canada?

Safest place? Canada... I don't know.

Quebec City keeps popping up, doesn't it?

St. John's too, but I barely remember visiting.

  • Quebec City, Quebec: Feels distant, like a postcard.
  • St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador: Wish I remembered more.

Ottawa-Gatineau... across the river from each other.

Then Toronto, Montreal, the usual suspects.

  • Ottawa-Gatineau, Ontario and Quebec: Politics, always politics.
  • Toronto, Ontario: Too much happening, too fast.
  • Montréal, Quebec: Maybe...the language barrier.

London, Halifax, Kingston...smaller, quieter.

  • London, Ontario: Never spent much time there.
  • Halifax, Nova Scotia: The ocean is a comfort though.
  • Kingston, Ontario: Safe, they say. Is that enough?

Kingston's got that university, Queen's. A small town, really. Is safety all there is? Guess so.

Kingston is known for low crime rates. Guess it's true.

What is the riskiest city for tourists?

Caracas... Caracas, a name that echoes in the valleys of fear. It breathes insecurity.

Karachi... Pakistan... A land painted with vibrant chaos, yet shadows lurk. A dance with danger.

Yangon, Burma. Golden pagodas, whispered prayers, and... a silent threat woven into the fabric of the city.

A Forbes report. Numbers quantify the intangible? Risk measured in points? Ninety-three point twelve. Ninety-one point sixty-seven. Ghostly figures.

  • Forbes lists Caracas as riskiest.

  • Karachi and Yangon, close behind.

  • These cities—a siren song of uncertainty.

What lurks in the humid air, in the crowded streets? What makes these places so... unsettling?

Oh, Venezuela. Political unrest, a constant tremor. A desperate struggle for survival leaves tourists vulnerable.

Pakistan, a history etched in turbulence. Economic disparities fuel desperation, a breeding ground for crime.

Burma, a nation wrestling with its past. Conflict simmers beneath the surface, erupting without warning.

The why is a tangled web. Poverty, political instability, corruption... these are the demons that haunt these cities. They prowl the streets.

It’s more than numbers. It's a feeling. A prickling on the skin. A sense of being watched.

Safety, a fragile thing. A precious commodity, absent in some corners of the world. Caracas, Karachi, Yangon… names to whisper with caution. Caution, a travel companion.
