Credit unions exist globally! While the United States boasts the highest membership (101 million), other countries with significant credit union presence include India (20 million), Canada (10 million), Brazil (6 million), and South Korea (5.7 million).

So, you’re wondering where you can find credit unions, huh? They’re everywhere, seriously! I mean, I always thought they were mostly a US thing, you know? Like, my grandpa always raved about his local one, said it was way better than those big banks. Turns out, he wasn’t entirely wrong.
The US is huge for credit unions – I read somewhere that over 100 million people are members! That’s crazy. But guess what? They’re popping up all over the world. India’s got a massive credit union system, around 20 million members I think? That’s a lot of people finding a different way to bank. Canada’s got a good chunk too, about 10 million. I even saw a stat about Brazil having 6 million, and South Korea with almost 6 million. Who knew? I certainly didn’t before I started digging around.
It really makes you think, doesn’t it? Makes you wonder why we don’t hear about them more often outside of, well, wherever you first encountered them. Maybe it’s just the way things are reported, you know? Or maybe it’s just that I’m only now realizing how widespread they actually are. It’s kind of exciting, to be honest. Makes me want to look into whether they exist where I am!
