What happened in the United States in 1923?
What key events and history happened in the US during the year 1923?
Okay, 1923... That's like, ancient history to me, right? lol. Let's see what actually went down, I'm kinda curious now too!
Rosewood massacre, Florida happened. Destruction. Racially driven event. Start of year
It's so messed up that an entire town was destroyed simply because of race. It's hard to even imagine it. Like, did people actually do that? History is brutal, man.
Also, apparently lots of people were born in '23... but I don't know names exactly... and like why is that 'key'? Is that right use of that word?
I visited St. Augustine, Florida a few years ago (maybe 2018?). The history there hit me way different then reading it on a computer. Def recommend. Cost me around $80 for like tour and stuff i guess.
What happened in 1923 in the USA?
Rosewood, Florida. 1923.
A town. Black.
Lost in flames and hate. A nightmare unfolding slow.
- Rosewood massacre. January 1st to 7th. It echoes.
Rosewood... a place. Now just a stain.
The echoes of screams. Gone. A town erased. A people erased. Erased.
- Racially motivated. Always.
Rosewood. The very name. It tastes like ash in my mouth. Ashes fall.
Rosewood’s memory is all we have left. A ghost town. Is that all that remains?
*Additional information (dreamlike):***
- The year breathes heavy still. So many other things swirling, almost forgotten in shadow. A nation, booming but brittle.
- Jazz music spilled from speakeasies. It was so alive. So very alive.
- Inventions hummed, promising a future. But for whom? Did Rosewood hear that hum?
- Rosewood. Then and always. A shadow falls and we recall the ashes.
- A weight. We carry it forward. Always and always.
What happened in 1923 in the USA?
Rosewood, Florida. 1923. A tragedy. Black community destroyed. Brutal. Racially motivated. January. Seven days of horror. That's the story.
- Massacre. Black residents murdered.
- Town razed. Homes, businesses, vanished.
- Racial hatred. The root cause. Simple, really.
Justice? Absent. Still stings. History repeats. Learn from it. Or don't. Your choice. My life? Unrelated. Except... it informs my understanding of injustice. 2024 is different, but echoes resonate.
Other 1923 Events (US): I recall less vividly other details from that year. However, there were significant events outside the scope of the Rosewood incident. Focus was elsewhere, understandably.
- Economic shifts. The details escape me now.
- Political maneuvering. Always present. Always messy.
- Social change. Gradual. Painfully so.
My grandfather, born then, never spoke of Rosewood. He fought in WWII. That's his story. The year itself, a brutal mix of progress and regression. A microcosm of the American experience. Always messy.
