What is the average price of milk in the UK?
Is milk expensive in the UK these days? I was just wondering about that myself and, well, it's a bit of a mess to figure out! Seems like if you go to the store, a litre will cost you something like 46 or 47 pence. Ouch. But then I read that the farmers, the ones actually producing the milk, only get like 36 or 37 pence per litre – that's the "farmgate price," apparently. What?! Where's all that extra money going? It really makes you think, you know? Like, my grandpa used to be a dairy farmer, and I remember how hard he worked. Up early, late nights, never a holiday… It's just not fair if they're not getting a decent price for what they do. Almost makes me want to boycott supermarkets, you know? (Okay, maybe not boycott but…it's still frustrating.) I mean, ten pence a litre! That adds up. Where does it all go? Packaging? Transportation? Someone's making a profit somewhere, and it doesn't seem like it's the farmers.
