What was life like before trains?

Before trains, travel was slow and arduous. People relied on horses, wagons, and boats. Settlers faced grueling journeys and isolated lives. Communication depended on letters and word-of-mouth, delaying news significantly. Commerce was limited by transport costs and time.

Life Before Trains: Travel, Work, and Society?

Okay, so like, life before trains? Woah. It's kinda mind-blowing when you stop and think 'bout it.

Picture it: no choo-choo's! How'd folks really get around? Before cars or planes even?

I remember, vaguely, stories Gramps told. Land clearing? Hard Labor. Only muscles, human and animal. Imagine turning soil over, all day.

Moving crops? A total slog. Think wagons, maybe riverboats when possible. Slow, slow stuff. From what I remember, even getting a letter took forever.

He told me, on 12 June, he rememberd reading that. Back then, traveling between cities could literally take days! No overnight trips... Unless you stayed somewhere, duh.

From how they told it, it's like, a horse and buggy trip from Philadelphia to, I dunno, Lancaster PA cost around $5. Seem pretty pricy at the time.

Communication? It was limited. Letters took weeks, sometimes months, to reach someone. News spread much, much slower. Honestly, musta been frustating.
