• Reality: mostly chasing contractors, screaming in broken Arabic.

The pay? Eh, decent. I thought I'd be rollin' in it, like Dubai rich. Wasn't quite that.

The thing is, the culture shock, it hits hard. Fridays are like ghost towns. Everything shuts down. And trying to find decent pork sausage? Forget about it!

I lasted 9 months. Nine! Then, BAM, back to Chicago. Cold, but at least I could get a damn breakfast sandwich.

Okay, so you want to know like, where's the cheapest place to live if you bounce outta here, right? Well, lemme tellya, these lists are always changing. But, in 2024, Colombia is supposed to be super cheap. I always wanted to visit there!

Then there's Mexico. I think a lot of people know that one. My cuzzin Vinny lived in Tulum for a bit, said it was awesome but watch out for tourist traps. He got scammed. He is not the smartest man.

Next is Indonesia and Thailand. Southeast Asia is always a good bet, I guess. I mean, cheap eats, right? Then, you got Panama and Brazil in South America. Always wanted to see the Amazon.

• Colombia: Coffee, mountains, good music!
• Mexico: Beaches, food, friendly people (mostly).
• Indonesia: Islands, surfing, culture!
• Thailand: Temples, markets, street food!

Lastly, Philippines and China are on the list too. China's prolly only cheap if you like... live way out in the boonies. Like, I can't imagine Beijing being cheap, ya know?
