Who is eligible for Vietnamese citizenship?
Who Qualifies for Vietnamese Citizenship?
Okay, so like, who actually gets to be Vietnamese, citizenship-wise? It's not exactly crystal clear, but lemme tell ya what I think I know.
Essentially, you gotta have stuck around Vietnam for at least five years before you even think about applying. That's a long time, right?
And here's the kicker: you gotta be able to, ya know, live. Support yourself. Like, show they you are not gonna be a burden or something. It makes kinda sense, but still.
Back in '08, I remember helping this American guy translate some documents (he paid me like $20, which was HUGE then!). He was trying to prove he could support himself by showing his rental income from back home in, uhm, Iowa? I think it was Iowa... or Idaho? Gah, it was one of those "I" states. Point is, he had to jump through hoops. Crazy, right?
It feels kinda tricky, right? The requirements always... they do not feel the most transparent.
