Who is the largest consumer of rice in the world?

You know, I've always wondered who eats the most rice. It's such a staple food for so many people! Turns out, it's China. Like, by a LOT. I saw somewhere that they're expected to eat something crazy like 145 million metric tons of rice in 2024/2025. Can you even imagine that much rice?! It's mind-boggling. India's a distant second, though they still eat a ton – around 121 million metric tons. Which, let's be honest, is still an insane amount of rice. Makes me think of that time I went to an Indian restaurant and they brought out this HUGE platter of biryani… it felt like a mountain of rice! Anyway, it's definitely interesting to see how much rice these countries consume.
