Why do people still use money orders?

Why do people still use money orders? It used to feel like such a relic, you know? Like something my grandma used. But then I started thinking about it, really thinking, and I get it now. It’s all about accessibility, isn’t it? It’s so easy to forget, especially if you’ve always had a bank account – and a pretty good one at that, like me – that not everyone does. Seriously, I had a friend, Sarah, who was struggling for years. She bounced around between a few dead-end jobs, never quite enough to meet the bank’s requirements for an account, or at least one that didn’t charge her an arm and a leg. Money orders were her lifeline. She could pay bills, send money to her family, and honestly, it just gave her a little bit of dignity, a way to manage her finances without feeling like a complete outcast. So yeah, I mean, it’s not the most efficient system, but for some people, it’s the only system they’ve got. It’s a real option for them, a way to participate in the economy, even if the system isn’t exactly built to help them. It makes me feel…well, kind of sad, actually, that people still need that option in this day and age, but I also respect its importance.
