What is coach vs business vs first?

Okay, so you’re wondering about the difference between coach, business, and first class on a plane, right? I get it, it can be confusing! Basically, it all boils down to how much comfort (and legroom!) you’re willing to pay for.

Think of it this way… there are generally three main classes when you fly commercial:

• First Class: This is the splurge. I’m talking lie-flat beds, fancy meals with actual silverware (not plastic!), and sometimes even a little private suite. I’ve only flown first class once, thanks to a crazy upgrade, and let me tell you, it was amazing! I felt like royalty! Is it worth the price? Honestly, for most trips, probably not for me. But for a special occasion or if you really need to arrive rested… maybe?

• Business Class: This is like a step down from first class, but still a massive upgrade from coach. You get more legroom, comfier seats that recline more (sometimes even fully flat!), better food, and often priority boarding. I flew business class to Europe once for a work trip, and I have to admit, it made a huge difference in how jet-lagged I was. It’s definitely a nice treat if you can swing it. You know, is it better than sitting squished in coach? Oh, definitely!

• Coach/Economy Class: Ah, coach. This is where most of us spend our flights, right? It’s the basic seating, minimal legroom (often very minimal!), and usually you have to pay extra for things like checked bags and meals. But hey, it gets you there! I’ve had some perfectly fine coach flights, and I’ve had some that were… less than pleasant. Remember that one time I was stuck in the middle seat next to a guy who took up half my space? Ugh! But you know, it’s usually the most budget-friendly option, and sometimes that’s all that matters. You do get what you pay for, or don’t pay for, I guess!
