Can a Wi-Fi owner see my activity?
Can a Wi-Fi owner really see my activity? Ugh, just thinking about it gives me the creeps. Seriously, is there anything more invasive than someone peeking at your internet history? And the answer, unfortunately, is probably yes. That person controlling the Wi-Fi, your landlord, maybe even a nosy neighbor if you're on a shared network… they could see what you’ve been up to online.
I mean, those routers? They keep logs, right? Like, a detailed record of everything. And if they're even a little bit tech-savvy – and let's be honest, some people are way more tech-savvy than they let on – they can totally access that stuff. I remember this one time, back in college, my roommate (who swore he wasn’t that into computers) somehow managed to see that I'd been looking up recipes for… let's just say very specific kinds of cookies. It was mortifying! I still haven't let him live that down.
It just feels like a total invasion of privacy, you know? It’s my business! My browsing history, my online life… it’s none of their darn business. Public Wi-Fi is especially terrifying now – I mean, who knows what kind of person is running that thing? I'm always super careful now, using a VPN whenever I can. It's a pain, sure, but honestly, way better than the alternative, right? This whole thing just makes me appreciate the little things, like my own private, secure network (which I overpaid for, but hey, worth it!).
