Can Uber access your camera?
Okay, so, can Uber just see what's on my camera? Honestly, that was a worry of mine too! I mean, in this day and age, who isn't a little paranoid about their privacy, right?
From what I've dug up, it seems like Uber, by default, can't just waltz into my camera roll and start browsing through vacation pics or embarrassing selfies. Phew! And get this, it's not just me they can't snoop on. Apparently, not even the drivers or the passengers can access the recordings (unless of course, the driver actively sends something as part of a safety report). I remember once accidentally taking a picture of my overflowing laundry basket – mortifying! – so the thought of that ending up… anywhere… yeah, no thanks.
What's also kinda cool (and a little bit reassuring) is that these recordings are encrypted. I mean, I don't really know what "encrypted" means in detail, but I get the gist - it's supposed to make it harder for anyone to get to the data. And get this – they auto-delete after a week! A week! It's not forever, which is, honestly, a good thing, right?
Look, is it a perfect system? Probably not. Are there still potential risks and things to think about when it comes to data privacy? Absolutely! But it does feel a little bit better knowing that there are at least some layers of protection built in. I feel like at least they're thinking about privacy to some extent, right?
