How fast does a passenger plane have to go to get off the ground?
Isn't it crazy how fast a plane has to go to take off? I mean, seriously, whoosh! Down the runway, faster and faster... it's exhilarating, you know? Like, you're just sitting there, all buckled in, and you feel this incredible surge forward. I remember being on a flight out of Chicago once, and I swear, it felt like we were going a million miles an hour before we finally lifted off. I think I read somewhere that those big jets need something like 150-180 mph before they can get airborne. 180 mph! That's insane! Think how long it takes you to get to 60 in your car... and they practically double or triple that just to get off the ground! It's mind-boggling. Then, you've got those little prop planes, like the ones you see buzzing around small airports. They seem to practically hop into the air, don't they? I saw one take off once, I swear, it felt like barely 60 mph. It really makes you wonder about the physics involved, how different sizes and wing designs affect how much speed you need. So much goes into it, right? It's just... amazing.
