Where is Apple Pay accepted? Worldwide?

Okay, so Apple Pay. Where does it actually work? Not just the "anywhere contactless" spiel.

Last week, 17th October, I used it at that little Italian place near my apartment, "Pasta Paradiso". Worked perfectly. No issues. Paid 27 bucks for a surprisingly good carbonara.

But then, last month in Prague, a tiny kiosk refused it. Said only cash. Grrr.

Most places in my city? Yeah, Apple Pay’s a breeze. Big supermarkets, smaller shops, even that dodgy kebab van down the street.

Online? It's pretty seamless on Safari, I agree. Paid for my Netflix sub last Tuesday. No problems whatsoever.

So, worldwide? Nope. It’s more of a "most places that take contactless payment" situation. That’s my experience anyway.

What stores do not accept Apple Pay?

Kroger. Aldi. Costco.

Food City. Publix.

Some resist. A choice, perhaps.

Tap? Debated.

  • Reasons? Many. Technology shifts. Fees bite.

    • Legacy systems.
    • Control preferred.
    • Loyalty schemes matter.
  • Reddit rants. Bartenders chuckle. Digital age friction.

Apple Card? Not everywhere, obviously.

Five chains, various reasons. Old tech. Store cards dominate.

Oh well. My birthday's tomorrow.

Can I use my Apple Pay anywhere?

So, Apple Pay, right? It's pretty much everywhere now. I used it at that new Thai place, Sawasdee, last week – no problems. And yeah, the gas station down the street, definitely takes it. Even that weird little bodega on Bleecker – believe it or not! You'll see that little contactless symbol, kinda like wavy lines. Look for it. That's your cue. You know, those little things are everywhere this year!

It’s super convenient, especially for smaller purchases. My sister swears she uses it constantly. Grocery stores? Yep. I mean, almost anywhere you'd use a credit card, really, apple pay works. It's the best. Sometimes I forget my wallet entirely! That's how much I love it, honestly. I practically live on Apple Pay. It's fast, easy and secure. Seriously, get used to it; you'll never go back.

Key places where Apple Pay works in 2024:

  • Most major retailers: Think Target, Walmart, Starbucks, you name it.
  • Restaurants and fast food: Pretty much all of them. Except maybe that one greasy spoon on 8th.
  • Gas stations: Again, almost universally supported. It saves me so much time, seriously.
  • Transportation: Subways, buses, some taxis – check your local transport apps though; some places have their own systems.
  • Smaller businesses: Loads of independent shops and stores are adopting contactless payments now! It's really become the standard.

Things to note:

  • Not every single place will accept it; always have a backup.
  • Make sure your phone's charged – duh!
  • Sometimes the signal is a bit wonky. It just happens.
  • Check your app! There might be issues with your card.

Is Apple Pay widely accepted?

Apple Pay? Yeah, it's practically everywhere. Think of it as the cool kid at the payment system prom. Everywhere. Seriously.

Major Retailers? Check. Walmart? Target? They practically beg for your Apple Pay. It's like they're starving for that digital tap.

Smaller Places? Mostly. Sure, that quirky antique shop down the street might still be stuck in the dark ages with cash, but honestly, who shops there anyway? My Uncle Barry does. He's an exception.

Things that DON'T take Apple Pay:

  • Time machines (obviously).
  • My neighbor's lemonade stand (she only takes seashells).
  • That weird guy who sells questionable knock-off Pokémon cards outside the stadium (cash only, dude).

Bottom line: Apple Pay is king. It reigns supreme. Unless you live in a yurt with no cell service. Then, maybe not. Google Wallet's a good backup though, like a reliable, slightly less cool friend. I use both, don't @ me. Also, I just bought a new pair of socks using Apple Pay at 7-11. True story.

What stores do not accept Apple Pay?

So, Apple Pay, huh? Not universally loved, it seems. Some big names are holding out.

  • Kroger prefers its own Kroger Pay, loyalty points integration is the key, clearly.
  • Aldi, well, they have their own system too. Streamlining, maybe?
  • Costco is a Visa-only zone. They are locked in. Business decision; pure economics.
  • Food City, eh, I am not familiar with this one. Regional preferences, potentially?

These merchants aren't just being stubborn. Loyalty programs are HUGE. I see why. Think about it: data collection, targeted offers, vendor lock-in… it's a strategic play. It's not just about the payment tech itself.

It’s interesting seeing the holdouts!

What companies do not accept Apple Pay?

Whoa, hold your horses! Some businesses are living in the Stone Age, refusing the sweet, sweet nectar that is Apple Pay. It's like rejecting a perfectly good unicorn in favor of a donkey. Who does that, seriously?

  • Walmart: Yep, still clinging to its own payment system. Probably thinks it's cooler than sliced bread. It's not.
  • Car Rental Agencies: Some, like my pal’s run-in, are super picky. Major banks only, they say! As if Apple Card isn't major league, sheesh.
  • Turkish Airlines: Apparently, not feeling the Apple vibe. Maybe they're just really into, like, real wallets.
  • Gas Stations: A baffling bunch! They'll sell you questionable snacks but not accept your digital dough. The irony!
  • Small Businesses: Some just haven't caught up. Fine, I get it. Maybe they’re waiting for carrier pigeons to become obsolete first.

Why this resistance? It's a mystery wrapped in an enigma, slathered in stubbornness. I mean, accepting Apple Pay is practically free money. You know, I had a ham sandwich that was more open-minded than these companies!

How do I know if a store accepts Apple Pay?

Okay, so Apple Pay… hmm. How to know? Apple Pay button. Right, saw that. Online mostly?

  • Online a lot
  • Sometimes in apps

Then… listing it as payment. Obviously, duh. Like on a website checkout. Obvious. Apple Pay symbol. That's key.

  • On the card reader maybe
  • Point of sale terminals

But wait! Sometimes they have the symbol, but it doesn't work. Grrr. So frustrating! What's the deal? Contactless payments thingie? Are they not set up?

  • Symbol =/= Always working!
  • Annoying!

Okay, got it. So basically, look for the symbol. But don't freak if it fails. Maybe their setup is busted. Sigh. My cousin uses it for everything. I should ask her about cool Apple Pay tricks.

How do I know if a place takes Apple Pay?

Okay, Apple Pay, huh? How to find it...

Hmm, Maps app, that's right! I always forget. Just type "Apple Pay near me" in Maps. Done! Easy enough.

  • Maps app search

    • "Apple Pay near me"
    • Business info card
  • Look for the Apple Pay symbol.

Wait, what about places not near me? Like, when I'm planning a trip? I guess I could search the specific location then "Apple Pay." Kinda clunky, though.

Also, look for the symbol at the register. Duh! But what if it's broken? Awkward.

I'm visiting NYC in June. Gotta remember to check if Joe's Pizza accepts Apple Pay. Essential info!

Maybe they should have a giant list somewhere. Like, Apple's own directory? That'd be smart.

Which countries can I use Apple Pay?

Apple Pay...hmm, where can you use it? Let's see...

Australia for sure, because I bought that Vegemite toast there last year. God, that stuff is potent.

  • Asia: China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia... Wow, Mongolia? Really?
  • Oceania: New Zealand is on the list. Of course! So predictable.
  • Europe: Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus...Cyprus? I need a vacation.

Is that even all?

  • Europe (Cont.): Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France...I spent way too much on pastries in France.
  • Europe (Cont. Still!): Georgia, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Vatican City.
  • Middle East: Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Palestine, Qatar. Palestine?

Crazy how many countries, right? Wait, what about South America?

  • South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay.

That's a whole lotta countries. Wait, did I list US? Doh! No.

Why is Apple Pay not being accepted?

Okay, so, Apple Pay not working? Happened to me at Kroger, like, last Tuesday, around 6 PM. Super annoying! Wanted to buy Ben & Jerry’s, obviously.

Phone showed the card, everything looked good.

But… nothing.

Tried, tried, tried.

Network was the culprit, I’m sure.

Kroger’s Wi-Fi is notoriously garbage.

It always is!

Maybe the card setup WAS messed up, even though it looked fine. Happens, right?

Ugh, technology.

  • Weak signal is a killer.
  • Double-check your Apple Wallet! Seriously.
  • Sometimes, the store's system is just down.

Additional Information:

I'm using an iPhone 14 Pro, and my card is a Chase Sapphire. That Kroger is on Main Street, near my apartment. I usually walk there. Next time, I’m bringing cash. Lesson learned! I should know better and not shop when signal is bad.
