Is flying faster than a train?
Is flying faster than a train?
Okay, lemme tell ya what I think about planes vs. trains, speed-wise.
Cruising speed: 900 km/h for passenger jets. Concorde hit 2,179 km/h!
So yeah, flying is generally faster. No contest, really.
I remember taking the Eurostar from London to Paris, must have been around July '08. A pretty cool trip, but definitely took a few hours. (Around 400 euros return I think).
Planes feel much quicker, I took a flight from Rome to London once. I reckon it was two hours maybe? Compared to a train, it's really no contest which is faster.
Trains might be comfier, and you see the scenery, but speed wise... planes win, easily.
Can trains go faster than planes?
Okay, so like, trains faster than planes? Nuh-uh, no way. Planes are def way faster. Its all about the air, ya know?
- Planes have less drag. Air is thin up there.
- Think, trains have to, like, hug the ground.
- The aero, whats-it, dynamics and stuff.
- My grandma tried to tell me trains where faster once. Bless her heart, she ain't right about that.
Trains, even the super fast ones, they just cant get up to airplane speeds. No where near as fast, honestly. We talking, like, jet engine vs. choo-choo, you get what Im saying?
- Trains hit like, top speed is slow. Planes go way faster.
- Distances matters, too. Who wants a super slow rail journey.
- Got to visit my cuzzin Suzie out in Cali. Driving is for suckers. So is the train if you're going that far.
It is what it is. Planes, they're the speed demons. Trains, eh, more about the scenery, I guuess. Air travel for the win tho, fs.
Is it faster to travel by train or plane?
Trains? Pfft. Slow as molasses in January. Planes are the bee's knees, speed demons, the Usain Bolt of travel. Seriously, unless you enjoy watching the countryside blur by at a snail's pace, fly.
Air travel wins hands down. It's like comparing a cheetah to a... well, a really slow tortoise wearing tiny roller skates.
Here's the lowdown:
- Speed: Planes are ridiculously fast. Think warp speed, but with slightly less vomiting.
- Distance: Long distances? Planes rule. Trains? They're more like a leisurely Sunday stroll. A very long stroll.
- Comfort: Depends on the airline, obvi. But even the worst airline seats still beat squeezing into a train seat next to someone who smells like old gym socks. My cousin Mark swears he once sat next to a guy who brought a ferret on a cross-country train ride. True story.
- Scenery: Unless you're obsessed with watching fields of corn go by, a plane offers the superior view. The clouds! The vastness! It’s majestic, like a giant fluffy cloud pillow.
Seriously, unless you have an irrational fear of heights, which, I get, or if your goal is to watch the world crawl by at a glacial pace, choose the plane. I once took a train to visit my aunt Mildred in Ohio; it took nearly forever! That trip was truly an odyssey. My back still hurts.
Can a train be as fast as a plane?
Trains are slow. Planes win.
Speed disparity is vast. 800-900 km/h versus 300-350 km/h. No contest.
My 2024 Tokyo trip proves this. Bullet train? Nice, but slow compared to the flight.
- Air travel: Significantly faster.
- High-speed rail: Impressive, but limited.
- My experience: Confirmed the speed difference.
Factors:
- Airplanes fly above obstacles.
- Trains are bound to tracks.
- Physics.
It’s a simple equation: air beats rail. Always has. Always will.
Is a high-speed rail faster than flying?
Man, I was stuck in traffic on the I-95 South in 2023, heading to Miami. Brutal. Like, hours. I was fuming. My flight was in three hours! Screaming internally. That's when it hit me. Trains. High speed rail. That could have been me, zipping along at, what, 200 something miles per hour? Way faster than that snail's pace on the highway.
But no, Miami is too far. Planes are way faster for long hauls, right? I mean, even those slow pokes in the air do 500+ mph, seriously. It's not even a competition. A thousand kilometers? Forget about it. Gotta fly. The train journey would be agonizingly slow.
Seriously, that traffic was the ultimate time suck. I missed my flight. I was so pissed. I swear, next time, I'm checking the train schedule first, even for a long trip. For shorter distances though, train is the king. No airport security lines! This is so true. Short hops? Trains win. Hands down. No TSA. No delays. You get my drift.
- Planes win for long distances (over 1000km).
- Trains are much better for short distances.
- High speed rail maxes out around 180 mph.
- Planes easily cruise at 500+ mph.
- 2023 I-95 South traffic: My personal train vs. plane nightmare.
What is faster, a jet or a train?
A jet, hands down. Took a flight from Denver to Dallas last July, 2024. Crazy heatwave there, I tell ya. The flight itself? About an hour and fifteen minutes. Ridiculous. I was sweating bullets waiting at DIA, security was a nightmare, felt like I aged five years waiting in that line. Then the taxi to the airport and from DFW? Another hour total. Still, two and a half hours max, door-to-door. That train ride my sister took? Five and a half hours, she said. Five and a half!! She's still complaining about it.
- Jet: Much faster overall
- Train: Slow, tedious, boring.
My sister, she's always complaining about everything. But even she admitted the plane was quicker, even with all the airport stuff. She was exhausted after that train journey. It's a huge time difference. Next time I'll pay a little extra, it's worth it to avoid being cooped up on a train for an eternity.
Ugh, airports. But still quicker than that train ride. Seriously, five and a half hours? I'd rather deal with the airport hassle. Way faster. That train journey completely sucked the life outta her, man. She's still grumpy about it.
