Is it possible to make a phone call from the internet?
Can you actually call someone from the internet? I used to think that was crazy talk! But, yeah, it totally is. It's called Wi-Fi calling, and it's pretty slick. Basically, if you've got it turned on, your phone will use your Wi-Fi network instead of your regular cell service to make calls. It’s kind of mind-blowing when you think about it. Like, actual phone calls, through the internet airwaves…who knew?!
You'll usually see something on your phone's screen that says "Internet Call" or "Wi-Fi Calling"—at least that’s what mine says—when you're connected to Wi-Fi. Makes it easy to tell what's going on. And, if you're not connected to Wi-Fi? Then it just uses your normal phone plan, like always. Remember that time I was visiting my grandma in the countryside and cell service was basically nonexistent? Wi-Fi calling saved the day! I could actually call my mom and tell her I arrived safely. Without it? Radio silence. So, yeah, it's definitely a handy thing to have.
