Is there always a copilot?

Is there always a copilot? Gosh, no! That's a funny thing to think about, isn't it? I mean, I always pictured those huge jets with, like, a whole team in the cockpit – but that's not always the case. Most flights, yeah, you've got your captain and your first officer, your two-person team, working together. They're a safety net, right? Think of that flight my sister took to visit her fiancé last year - a huge 747, definitely two pilots in that beast! But then you have these smaller planes... I was reading about it once, you know, smaller US airlines sometimes use just one pilot. Crazy, huh? I saw this little Cessna 208 Caravan, think of something almost like a big propellor plane that takes you to a small island; I'd be scared to be in that, even with one pilot! Can you imagine? It's a whole different ballgame than the massive airliners, the ones that are like floating cities. Those big guys? They almost always have a crew – you know, multiple pilots – because, well, safety first! It's just a lot more to handle, way more complex. I read somewhere that, statistically, two pilots significantly reduce the chance of accidents, makes sense, right? Two heads are better than one, especially when you’re thousands of feet in the air!
