What engines do go trains use?
You know, I've always wondered about those GO Trains, the ones rumbling through Toronto. What kind of engines do they use? It's not electric, is it? Well, turns out, they're mainly powered by these diesel-electric locomotives called MP40PH-3Cs. (Try saying that five times fast!) I looked it up – MotivePower makes them, all the way over in Boise, Idaho. Kind of cool, right? Idaho! Anyway, it seems like almost all of the GO Transit trains running around use that same engine. So, mystery solved, I guess. It's funny the things you randomly get curious about, isn't it? I remember seeing one of those trains once, stopped at a crossing, and thinking... how does such a massive thing even move? Now I know! Diesel-electric power from Idaho. Who would've thought?
