What is a healthy amount to be on your phone?
Healthy Screen Time for Adults: Limit non-work screen time to under two hours daily. Excess screen time should be replaced with physical activity.
Okay, so, “What’s a healthy amount of phone time?” That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it? I mean, honestly, who doesn’t feel like they’re glued to their phone these days?
What I’ve read suggests something like keeping recreational screen time – you know, not counting work – to under two hours a day. Two hours! That sounds like a dream! Seriously, try tracking it sometime. I did once, and… whoa, let’s just say I was way over. It was kind of a wake-up call.
But here’s the thing, and this is just me thinking out loud… is it really about the number? Like, if I spend 2.5 hours scrolling Instagram, is that worse than, say, spending 2 hours learning a new language on Duolingo? Probably. It’s not JUST about the numbers, it’s about what you DO on your phone, or tablet, or computer.
The other part that really resonates with me is the idea of replacing screen time with physical activity. This is HUGE. I know for myself that even a short walk outside can make a huge difference. It’s all about making sure that you are getting in enough movement during the day.
Think about it. We’re not meant to be staring at screens all day. Our bodies and minds crave movement and real-world experiences. So yeah, two hours might be a good guideline, but maybe the real goal is to consciously choose activities that nourish you, instead of just mindlessly scrolling until your eyes cross, right? It’s about finding that balance and making sure you’re not missing out on life happening all around you!
