Can I get on a train earlier than the one I booked?

Boarding an earlier train than your ticket allows is usually prohibited. Most rail companies won't permit it, potentially resulting in fines or refusal of travel. Unexpected changes? Contact your train company before departure to discuss ticket exchange options.

Can I board an earlier train than my booked time? Policy?
Ugh, this whole train thing is a mess. Tried to jump on an earlier train once, back in July last year from London Euston to Birmingham New Street. Nope. They wouldn't let me. Ticket said 10:30am, that's when I was going.
Total pain. The policy's pretty strict, generally speaking. Most companies are super inflexible. You'll likely get fined, or just turned away.
So, don't even try it. Unless something totally crazy happens – like, a family emergency – call the train company before your train leaves. Maybe they can help swap your ticket. Cost me a tenner last time I did that.
