Can I transfer a credit card balance?

Can I actually transfer a credit card balance? It’s way more complicated than you’d think. Like, okay, transferring a balance is usually fine, but… it gets ridiculously tricky if you’re trying to move it between cards at the same bank. Seriously, what’s up with that?! It’s almost like they’re saying, “Nope, you can’t game our system by using our own better offers against us!” Ugh. It’s so frustrating!

I remember this one time, I had a card with this crazy high APR, and they sent me an offer for another one of their cards with a 0% intro APR for balance transfers. Sweet deal, right? Wrong. Turns out, I couldn’t transfer the balance from my existing card to the new, shiny one because they were both from the same bank. Like, hello? Isn’t that the whole point of balance transfers?! It felt like a total slap in the face. You can bring new debt to them, no problem. But shuffling things around internally? Forget it. It just feels so… manipulative?
