Can I travel in another train if I missed my train?

Missed your Indian Railways train? You can't board another with your existing ticket. Your reservation is only valid for the specific train number. Traveling on a different train means you'll be considered without a ticket. However, if your train is delayed by over 5 hours, file a TDR (Ticket Deposit Refund).

Missed Train: Can I Travel on Another?

Okay, so you wanna know if you can hop on another train if you miss yours? Here’s the deal based on what I think I know, & a little digging I did.

Basically, no. You can’t just jump on a different train. Your confirmed ticket is only valid for that specific train.

Think of it like this: Your ticket is a reservation just for that train. Get it?

If you do, they’ll probs treat you like you don’t evenhave a ticket! Like when I was in Chennai (October 2018, I think?) and saw a guy getting fined…awful.

But! If your train’s super delayed (like, super delayed…over 5 hours), you can file a TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) for a refund.

I’ve never actually done the TDR thing myself.

Heard from somewhere that its a big pain tho. Ugh.

What should I do when I miss my train?

Ugh, missed my 8:17 AM train to London from Brighton on July 12th, 2024. Total disaster. My meticulously planned day, ruined. I was so late. Panic mode engaged.

Seriously, I felt sick. My stomach churned. I’d set multiple alarms, even put my phone across the room. Still, I slept through them all. Stupid me.

Next train wasn’t for another hour. I raced to the ticket office, heart pounding. The woman was incredibly helpful, though. She explained my options, calmly. No yelling, thankfully.

  • She rebooked me on the next available train.
  • She also gave me a refund for the missed train.
  • She mentioned a compensation form I could fill out later.

Honestly, the relief was immense. That woman saved my day. I could have been stuck, you know? Totally stranded.

I’d been stressing about a big presentation I had at the office that morning. Missed train meant I’d be late. My boss would’ve been furious. I hate being late!

The later train was packed. Annoying. But hey, at least I made it. The presentation went well, surprisingly. I think the initial adrenaline helped.

The whole thing taught me to set even more alarms. And maybe invest in a loud alarm clock. Or something. Definitely more alarms. Next time, I will get on that train, and on time, no matter what.

What happens when you miss the train?

Missed it? Consequence.

  • New ticket. Expect inflated prices.
  • Waiting. Time hemorrhage.
  • Connections evaporate. Meetings? Gone. Reschedule everything. Costly.
  • Stress. Annoyance. The trip? Soured.
  • 2024 travel? Brutal. I missed one in Zurich last July. Never again.

Additional Information:

  • Consider travel insurance, if missing trains frequently. Ahem.
  • Download train apps for real-time updates.
  • Allow ample buffer time. Always.
  • The next available train might not be direct. Plan route.
  • Notify anyone expecting you. Preemptive damage control.
  • Lost baggage? Another disaster layer. Report it immediately.
  • Check for refund policies on initial ticket. (Doubtful).
  • Explore alternative transportation options (bus, taxi, etc.). Desperation move.
  • Worst case: Find a temporary place to wait. Cost.
  • And for God’s sake, set alarms.

How do I say I missed the train?

Ugh, remember last Tuesday? I was so late. The 7:15 express to Birmingham. My alarm didn’t go off. Seriously. Dead battery. I woke up at 7:20. Panicked. My interview at 8:30! A total disaster. Spilled coffee all over my shirt, too. That was just the beginning of my terrible morning.

Racing down the street. Taxi? Forget it. Impossible. Traffic was insane. I actually saw a guy juggling oranges on a unicycle. Strange things happen when you’re late. I got to the station at 7:28. The train pulled away. Just. Like. That.

I sat on a bench, feeling utterly defeated. My phone buzzed. A text from my interviewer. Didn’t even bother opening it. Missed the interview. The job. Everything. My whole day was ruined. I eventually got a later train, a slow local one.

What happened? I missed my train. Simple as that. The consequences? A very bad day. Stress levels? Through the roof. A missed opportunity. No ifs, ands or buts. It really sucked. I felt stupid and clumsy.

  • Missed alarm: Dead battery. Should have checked it.
  • Traffic: Horrible. Unicycle guy. Yes, really.
  • Consequences: Missed interview. Lost job opportunity.
  • Feelings: Stress, frustration, regret, stupidity.
  • Lesson learned: Charge your phone!
