Can Uber drivers see my phone number? Uber privacy questions.

Okay, so, can Uber drivers see my actual phone number? Honestly, I was always kinda puzzled about that too.

Uber technically masks your number. When you contact your driver, they see a different, anonymized number.

It's supposed to be a unique, local number. Makes sense, right? Keeps things private. I get a call or text through the app, drivers don't see my real digits.

This anonymous number? It can change, they say. Adds a layer of protection, I guess.

If a driver tries saving the masked number & using it later, the call just won't go through, according to Uber. Kinda clever, huh? Like a burner phone... but for rides.

I booked an Uber 12 May 2023 around 7:30 PM near Grand Central. I think the fare was like $25? I always worry about leaving something behind, so I always call. Good to know they can't just spam my number afterward.

One time, like October last year, I swear I got a text from a driver after the ride ended. I couldn't figure out how. It was a general "thanks for riding" kinda thing, but still felt weird. Mebbe I gave my number out somwhere else, or sumthing...

So yeah, Uber says they hide your number, but keep an eye out I reckon, and stay safe!
