Hotel Room Amenities: What’s Yours to Take

When you check into a hotel room, it’s tempting to take home everything that isn’t nailed down. After all, you paid for the room, so why not get your money’s worth?

But before you start packing your suitcase with towels and robes, it’s important to know what you can and cannot take from a hotel room.

What You Can Take

• Small toiletries: The little bottles of shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion are typically yours to keep. These are usually provided for your convenience, and the hotel does not expect you to leave them behind.
• Coffee supplies: The coffee maker, filters, and coffee pods are also yours to take. Just be sure to empty the coffee maker before you leave, so the next guest doesn’t get a nasty surprise.
• Bathroom amenities: The shower cap, soap dish, and other small bathroom amenities are also yours to keep. These are often disposable items, and the hotel does not expect you to return them.
• Slippers: The slippers that are provided in your room are also yours to keep. These are typically disposed of after each guest departs, so you don’t have to feel guilty about taking them home.

What You Cannot Take

• Towels: The towels in your hotel room are not yours to take. These are considered hotel property, and you will be charged if you take them with you.
• Robes: The robes in your hotel room are also not yours to take. These are often rented by the hotel, and you will be charged if you take them with you.
• Electronics: The television, radio, and other electronics in your hotel room are not yours to take. These are considered hotel property, and you will be charged if you take them with you.
• Furniture: The furniture in your hotel room is not yours to take. This includes the bed, dresser, nightstands, and chairs.
