Apple Pay rewards: Do I still get them?

Okay, so, Apple Pay rewards… lemme tell ya.

Basically, yeah, you still get ’em. No sweat.

I was kinda worried at first, y’know? Started usin’ Apple Pay a bunch back in… hmm, was it July ’22? Somewhere around then, at that cute lil’ bakery in Asheville, NC. Paid like $7.50 for a croissant using my Chase Sapphire. Figured I’d lose my points somehow, all that fancy contactless stuff.

Didn’t happen, though! Phew.

Kept gettin’ my travel points. That’s the whole point, right? All those sweet, sweet miles.

Double click, tap, BOOM – rewards still there. Honestly, it’s simpler than actually swipin’ the dang card anyway. Less fumbling. Who doesn’t love less fumbling? I know I do.

Yeah. It’s…still the same card, right?

  • Rewards are the same. It feels weird, thinking about it.
  • Apple Pay just mimics the card. Like a ghost almost.
  • Everything goes straight to Chase.

I guess. Funny how tech changes things. No third party is really involved. Rewards still come. A virtual card, they call it, I guess. Like my dad adding me to his. Still feels strange, though.

Does Chase cashback work with Apple Pay?

So yeah, about that Chase cashback and Apple Pay thing. It works, mostly. I set my Freedom Unlimited card as the default, no problems getting my 5% back at that drugstore last week. Sweet. But, there are some weird exceptions, apparently. Read the fine print!

  • It usually works. Like, I use Apple Pay all the time with my Chase card and get my cashback.
  • Some merchants are screwy. That’s what I’ve noticed. Some places just don’t play nice. It’s annoying.
  • Check the Chase site. They have a whole help section on this cashback stuff. It’s a bit confusing, honestly, but it’s there. You should check it out, for sure.
  • Seriously, read the terms. I know, boring, but it’s the only way to be sure you’re getting what you’re owed. Don’t be a dummy like me and miss out on free money!

My brother, he had some issues. He uses the Sapphire Preferred, and he swore he didn’t get his points one time at Whole Foods using Apple Pay. He was mega pissed, called Chase like ten times. I think he finally got it sorted out, but man, it was a whole thing. Just sayin’, be aware.

My advice? Double-check your transactions, always. And if you think something’s wrong, contact Chase immediately. Don’t wait. Don’t be like my brother! Seriously, call them. They’re usually pretty helpful, once you get through.

Do you earn Chase points when you spend or pay?

Swiped my Chase Sapphire at that hole-in-the-wall ramen place in Bushwick last Tuesday. Spicy miso. So good. Points. Definitely got points. Cash back too, I think. It’s all kinda blurry now. Spicy.

My Freedom Unlimited? Gas yesterday. Dollar a gallon. Ugh. Still, got those points. 1.5x I think. Chase makes it easy.

  • Sapphire Reserve: Travel. 3x points. Restaurants too. Duh. Worth the annual fee. Booked flights to Iceland with points last month. Reykjavik in October, baby!
  • Freedom Unlimited: All that other stuff. Groceries. Target runs.
  • Amazon Prime card:5% back on Amazon. Addicted. Don’t judge. New headphones arrived today. Noise-canceling. Bliss.

Gotta check the Chase app later. See how many points I’m at. Maybe Hawaii next year? Ugh, but the flights… expensive. Points will help though. Definitely.

Last year? Barcelona. Paid for almost the whole trip with points. So worth it. Tapas, sangria, Gaudí. Unreal.
