Do you need a local phone number to use Grab?
Grab doesn't require a local phone number. Your international number works for signup and booking. A local number can improve driver communication and promotional offers, though. Verification methods vary by location.
Do I need a local phone number to sign up and use Grab services?
Grab doesn’t demand a local number. My UK number worked fine when I used Grab in Bangkok last July.
No local number needed for signup or rides. I booked airport transfers and scooted around town no problem. Used it all week.
A local SIM can be handy though. Easier for driver to call if they’re lost finding you.
Like, one time near Chatuchak Market, my driver couldn’t find the pickup spot. Having a Thai number then would’ve saved 15 minutes of frantic waving. That was 12 July.
So, international numbers are okay. Local SIM is just extra convenient. Think it cost me like 200 baht. Worth it, really.
