Forty-five minutes? A gate is calling. Bags, gone. Security… a swirling vortex. Boarding. A tight space.

Minimum check-in, forty-five. Maybe.

Forty-five… security’s embrace.

• Gone.

Bags… vanished on carousels of dreams. Same plane? Always hoped. Connection flights. Lost luggage, a childhood terror. I see a memory. Connection nightmares, that suitcase, a shade of blue. Missing.

The bag must fly.

• Connections terrify.
• Blue suitcase.
• Missing forever.

Pick up? No flight. No flight, no bag. My dad, once. He missed the flight.

• Missed the flight.
• Dad and the bag.
• Chaos reigned.

Luggage travels, it’s bound to, on planes, it floats, with me, away, away, like time.

How far before your flight can you check a bag?

Ugh, flying. Hate it. Seriously. My flight’s at 2 pm. So, gotta be there by 11 am, maybe even 10:30 am just to be safe, right? International flight, always a nightmare.

Checked bags… stupid checked bags. Always a hassle. Remember that time in Heathrow? Total chaos. Three hours early is what they recommend. Definitely needed that time.

• Domestic flights? Two to three hours before. Plenty of time, unless there’s a mega-line.
• International? Three to four hours! No joke. Security lines…Customs…ugh.

Need to print my boarding pass. I always forget. Always. And don’t forget passport! Seriously, my passport. Last time I almost left it on the kitchen counter.

This whole thing is stressing me out. My flight is to London. I’m excited to visit my cousin, Sarah, but the airport itself… shudders

Bags. Got to weigh my bags. Hope this suitcase doesn’t exceed the limit again. They charge a fortune. It’s 2024, they still charge so much. I packed too much last time. I know! It’s a bad habit! I need to change my habits! I must get better at packing light.

Baggage cut-off times – those are crucial. Find out what they are for my airline. Don’t want to miss my flight because of some luggage drama. That happened once. Never again! Learned my lesson.

Seriously though, gotta get going. Gotta get my butt to the airport. Gotta check my bag. See if the 23 kg limit is enough this time.

So, yeah, check-in times, right? It’s a total pain. For domestic flights, like, say, my trip to see my Aunt Mildred in Omaha last month, you gotta be there two hours before, minimum, maybe forty minutes is okay, but I wouldn’t risk it. International’s way earlier! Three hours minimum, sometimes even fifty minutes extra, depending on the craziness of the airport and the airline. Ugh. My cousin almost missed his flight to London because of this! It was a total nightmare. He was so stressed!

Seriously though, don’t be like my cousin. Plan ahead. Traffic, security lines, finding your gate…it all takes time, you know?

Key things to remember:

• Domestic Flights: 2 hours – 40 minutes before
• International Flights: 3 hours – 50 minutes before

That’s what I’ve learned anyway. And trust me, I’ve flown a LOT this year, 2024. My job with “Global Tech Solutions” keeps me hopping all over the place. And, sometimes, like, when I flew to that conference in Paris, it was actually way longer because of that crazy passport check thingy. So, add extra time if it’s a busy travel period, like holidays, or, if you’re a nervous flyer like my sister, haha. Seriously, she gets there like four hours early every single time!

Also, double check your airline’s specific rules, just in case. They can be picky. They are, sometimes. There’s a thing about online check-in too, which can save you a bit of time at the airport, but, I usually still go to the desk anyway. Just feel safer that way. I’m a bit of a worrier.
