How do I add an employee card to my iPhone?
Ugh, I wish adding my employee badge to my iPhone was as simple as tapping a button! Seriously, it feels like jumping through hoops. First, my companys administrator needs to actually enable the feature. Then, I need to make sure my phone is new enough – thankfully, I have a newer iPhone. But dont forget my Apple Watch! It needs to be a Series 4 or later. Its a lot to keep track of, but so convenient if it works!
My Odyssey to a Digital Employee Badge: Why Isn’t This Easier?
Okay, let me vent for a second. I’m all about streamlining my life. Less stuff in my pockets, fewer cards to lose, you know the drill. So naturally, the idea of having my employee badge on my iPhone – and maybe even my Apple Watch – is incredibly appealing. Imagine, just a flick of the wrist and I’m through the door! But getting there? Let’s just say it’s been a journey.
First of all, this isn’t just a matter of downloading an app. Oh no, it’s much more complicated than that. It starts with my company. They actually have to enable the feature. I’m talking full-on IT department involvement. I had to send an email, then another email, and then finally corner someone in the breakroom to get the ball rolling. It’s like trying to get an appointment with a specialist – except instead of a medical miracle, I’m just trying to open a door.
Then there’s the tech compatibility hurdle. Thankfully, I upgraded my phone last year, so I’m good on that front. I vaguely remember reading somewhere that you need an iPhone XS or later, or an iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later. That part wasn’t a problem for me, but I can see how it could be a barrier for some people. Not everyone’s rocking the latest and greatest, and forcing an upgrade just for a digital badge seems a bit much.
But wait, there’s more! My Apple Watch also wants in on the action. Which is great, in theory. But wouldn’t you know it, there are restrictions there too. It has to be an Apple Watch Series 4 or later. My old Series 3? Left out in the cold. I mean, I get it, technology marches on and older devices get left behind. But it still stings a little. Especially since my Series 3 works perfectly fine for everything else!
So, assuming your company has flipped the magic switch (and you’ve got compatible devices), the actual setup process is supposed to be straightforward. Something about adding the badge through your Wallet app. I haven’t actually gotten that far yet, but I’m trying to remain optimistic. Because honestly, the convenience of a tap-to-enter system is a huge draw. No more fumbling for my badge in the bottom of my bag, or awkwardly trying to swipe it while balancing my coffee and laptop.
I’m holding out hope that once all the stars align, and my company finally enables the feature, it will be as smooth and effortless as advertised. Until then, I’ll keep carrying my physical badge, dreaming of the day I can leave it behind. And maybe, just maybe, send a gentle reminder to my IT department. Because seriously, I’m ready for the future!
