How to book a Grab ride in a different city or location?

Okay, so you wanna Grab in a new city? Been there!

Booking in another location’s actually pretty easy. The app kinda knows where you are, you know? It just… figures it out.

But, adding an extra stop? That’s where things get a bit wonky sometimes. I had to add a stop once, near SM North on Commonwealth last month (it was like, 50 pesos more, jeez!).

According to Grab (from their own site, anyway!), you gotta put in your start and end points first. Then, there’s a little plus sign thingy to add another stop. Tap that bad boi.

Then, pick where that extra stop is, obvs. And apparently, you can even swap the order around? Never tried that, actually. Wonder how that affects the fare? Hmmm, new experiment?

I imagine the fare change, though, if the route’s different. Makes sense, right? Anyway, then ya book! Easy peasy!

Did have a ride cancel on me once, adding the stop, tho. Just sayin’.

Can Grab pick up from two locations?

Grab allows multiple stops, a feature I use frequently for errands around my neighborhood in Kuala Lumpur. You add stops after inputting the initial pickup and destination. It’s remarkably straightforward.

Key Steps:

  • Input initial pickup and drop-off points. This is crucial.
  • Tap the “+” button to add a second location. This is where the magic happens, really.
  • Specify the coordinates for the added stop. Accuracy is important here; Grab’s GPS isn’t always perfect in older buildings, trust me.
  • Rearrange stops if needed using the ‘swap’ function. This is useful, and I often find myself doing this.

The fare calculation incorporates all stops, so expect a higher price than a single-point trip. The pricing algorithm, however, remains a bit of a black box. It feels arbitrarily calculated sometimes.

Adding more than two stops is possible; I’ve done four stops in the past, for instance. Although, it significantly increases your overall cost. This makes the feature more useful for shorter distances. Longer distances result in a prohibitive cost increase.

One thing I find frustrating: sometimes the app bugs out. It needs updates. Annoying.
