How to Transition from WeChat to Weixin

Weixin, also known as WeChat outside of mainland China, is a popular messaging and social media platform. While both platforms share similar functionalities, certain features and services are exclusive to Weixin within mainland China. To fully access these exclusive features, users need to switch their WeChat accounts to Weixin.

Prerequisite: Mainland Chinese Phone Number

To successfully transition to Weixin, you require a mainland Chinese phone number. If you do not have one, you will need to obtain one through a local cellular provider or an authorized reseller.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open the WeChat App: Launch the WeChat application on your mobile device.

2. Navigate to Profile: Tap on the “Me” icon located in the bottom right corner of the main screen.

3. Access Settings: Scroll down and tap on “Settings.”

4. Account Security: Under the “Account Security” section, select “Phone Number.”

5. Change Phone Number: Tap on “Change Phone Number.”

6. Enter Mainland Chinese Number: Enter your mainland Chinese phone number in the designated field.

7. Verify New Number: WeChat will send a verification code to your new number. Enter the code in the app.

8. Unbind WeChat: Once the new number is verified, you will need to unbind your WeChat account from your old number. Tap on the “Unbind” option next to the old number.

9. Complete Binding: WeChat will prompt you to confirm the binding process. Tap on “Confirm” to complete the switch.

Note: After successfully changing your phone number to a mainland Chinese one, your WeChat account will automatically transition to Weixin. You will now have access to all the features and services exclusive to Weixin within mainland China.
