What is the alternative to Wi-Fi Direct?

Ugh, Wi-Fi Direct alternatives? So annoying. My phone's near-dead battery is making this harder than it needs to be. Seriously, why is Android so power-hungry?

Bluetooth is the obvious one, right? It's slower, but less of a battery hog. I use it sometimes, but the range sucks. Especially in my apartment building. That concrete is a wifi-killer too.

Speaking of apps... Feem is pretty good. I used it last week to send a bunch of pics to my sister. Fast enough for that, anyway. SuperBeam too. Both are way better than messing around with emails for big files.

NFC is another option, but the damn things have to be touching. Ridiculous. Who has time for that? Unless you're transferring something tiny, like an access code.

Then there are cloud services. Dropbox, Google Drive… Sure, convenient, but they need internet access which, again, sucks in my building. And privacy concerns. Always privacy concerns. I hate the cloud, honestly.

Remember that time I tried to send a video file, 4 gigs, using that awful wifi-direct transfer app, the one with the pixelated icon? It crashed. Twice. It was a nightmare. My coffee got cold!

• Bluetooth: Reliable for small files, short range. • Feem: Solid app for larger transfers. Recommend. • SuperBeam: Another good app alternative, haven't tried it as much as Feem. • Cloud Services: Convenient, but data usage & privacy are major downsides. • NFC: only for super small files, really close range.

Need a new phone charger. And maybe a better coffee maker. Seriously considering a switch to iOS for better battery management. But I’d probably miss my custom ROM.

Is Wi-Fi Direct still used?

Okay, so 2024, right? I was trying to send, like, a 2GB video to my sister's phone. Both Samsung Galaxy S23s, newest models. I swear, Wi-Fi Direct used to be right there. But nope. Vanished. Seriously frustrating. I felt like I was losing my mind. It was like 3 pm, I was already late for a dentist appointment.

It's ridiculous! Samsung took it away! They’re idiots. This simple file transfer feature. GONE.

How does it even work? Simple. Two devices talk directly. No router involved. Faster, sometimes, than Bluetooth. At least, that’s how I always understood it. It was much faster than Bluetooth, for sure. Maybe a little slower than regular WiFi, with a router. But still…

I ended up using Samsung’s own "Quick Share". Worked okay. But it wasn't Wi-Fi Direct. It's a different thing! I hate Samsung for this. This made me so angry. And then, the dentist...

Quick Share is fine, I guess. But I miss the straightforwardness of Wi-Fi Direct. Simple, direct. It's gone, though. Poof. Gone. I really really miss it. It's the stupidest decision ever.
