How do I offer cash on delivery?

Cash on delivery, huh? I've dabbled in that a bit, and let me tell you, it's a mixed bag. Exciting, definitely, but a little nerve-wracking too! I mean, you're basically sending your precious product out into the world with the hope that you'll actually get paid for it. Crazy, right?

First things first, what are you even selling? That makes a big difference. I used to sell handmade jewelry on Etsy, and COD wasn't even an option there, so I had to go through PayPal. But then, I started selling some vintage clothes directly through Instagram, and dealing with cash felt a lot more...personal. More risky too, if I’m being honest.

Where you’re selling is a biggie. Like I said, Etsy, no go on COD. Your own website? Maybe, but you’d have to set up the whole system yourself. It’s a headache. There are some platforms that cater specifically to COD transactions, though. I remember looking into one once... can't recall the name now, but it was something like... "ShipCash" or something? Don't quote me on that.

Marketing is key, absolutely. You gotta get those orders coming in! I remember one time, I spent ages crafting this beautiful necklace, listed it online, and... crickets. Nothing. It wasn't until I started boosting posts and doing a little Instagram Live session that things finally picked up. So yeah, get the word out!

And then...the actual delivery. The moment of truth! This is where things can get tricky. I had one experience where I sent a dress to a customer, and they just...didn't answer the door. Three times! I was so frustrated. Finally got hold of them, and they claimed they'd forgotten. Ugh. That’s why clear communication is so, so important. Tell your customers exactly when to expect their package. Tracking numbers? Lifesavers! I learned that the hard way.

It's definitely a hassle sometimes, no doubt about it. But I’ve also found that it opens up a whole new customer base. There are a lot of people out there who just don't trust online payments, you know? So, while it's more work, COD might be worth considering, depending on what you’re selling and who you’re selling it to. Just...be prepared for a few bumps in the road!
