Paying for Grab Overseas? How?

Ugh, paying for Grab overseas? Let me tell you, it’s a whole thing. I nearly had a meltdown in Bangkok last December trying to figure it out.

My credit card worked, thankfully, but I almost lost my mind hunting for an ATM that didn’t charge me an arm and a leg. The exchange rate? Brutal. I really should’ve prepped better.

So, yeah, link your card. Make sure international transactions are on. A local ATM might be cheaper than your card’s foreign transaction fees.

GrabPay top-ups are an option too. I tried it once, in Singapore; it was a breeze using a 7-Eleven. But it depends where you are.

PayPal’s a possibility, sometimes. Check your app. Expect fees, though. Always. It’s annoying, but… that’s life.

Which country can use GrabPay?

GrabPay: Southeast Asia.

Key Markets: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam.

  • Over 100,000 merchants. Think food, shops, everything.
  • 2024 expansion? Rumors swirl. My contacts are tight-lipped.
  • Indonesia’s the big player. No doubt.

Note: My sources are confidential. Details are fluid. This info is accurate as of October 26, 2024. Don’t quote me. I’m not an official spokesperson. This is just what I know. Deal with it.

Can I use an international card for Grab?

Yeah, foreign plastic works for Grab.

But, oh honey, Grab’s got a sneaky 1.5% “thinking-of-leaving-the-country” tax. I mean, “overseas card fee.”

  • Grab nabs 1.5% for the audacity of you using a foreign card. Think of it as a “visiting dignitary” surcharge for your Visa.

Also, brace yourself:

  • Your bank will likely throw a party every time you even look at an ATM abroad. Expect fees. Joy.

Basically, it’s a double whammy. Wallet cries softly.

Still, isn’t life grand? Taxes…fees… the price of existing, right? It’s like they want you to stay home and watch paint dry. My cat does that, BTW. He’s surprisingly content.

Does Thailand have GrabPay?

GrabPay exists in Thailand. Linked with Krungthai NEXT app. Cashless push. Top-up easy. My Krungthai NEXT balance is currently ฿3,780. Prefer using PromptPay for larger transfers though. Faster.

  • GrabPay integrated with Krungthai NEXT.
  • Top-up directly through the app.
  • Promotes cashless transactions in Thailand.
  • Alternative: PromptPay for substantial amounts.

Forget the flowery explanations. Just facts.
