Oh my gosh, a 20-hour road trip? That sounds intense! I’ve done long drives before, but nothing quite that epic. Seriously, how do you even prepare for that? It’s not like popping to the shops, is it?

First off, your car’s gotta be ready for war. I mean, a proper check-up. Remember that time I drove to see my aunt in the summer? My tire blew out halfway there – talk about a stress-inducing moment. So, yeah, check your fluids – oil, coolant, all that jazz. Make sure your battery’s charging properly; you don’t want to get stranded somewhere with questionable cell service. Tires are super important, obviously, and don’t forget the spare! I once had a flat and my spare was totally flat – so frustrating! And wipers? Essential. Especially if you’re driving through, like, unpredictable weather. Oh, and your jack – test that thing! You don’t want to be wrestling with a broken jack on the side of the road.

Safety first, right? I always pack a first-aid kit – you never know what might happen. A good flashlight is a must, even if you think you’ll never need it. Trust me, you will need it at some point. And a fire extinguisher – just in case. Better safe than sorry. You know, my friend, Sarah, once had a small engine fire on a long trip, thankfully she was able to put it out with her extinguisher. So, scary.

Then there’s the actual trip planning. Seriously, plan your route – using Google Maps, obviously. Then share it with someone. Let a friend or family member know where you’re going, when you expect to arrive and even better, have regular check-ins. It’s the responsible thing to do, for peace of mind. And entertainment! Podcasts are my go-to. Music is great too, but podcasts help the time fly by. I listened to an entire true crime series on my last long drive – I felt like I’d binged a whole TV show when I got to my destination.

So yeah, that’s my take on prepping for a 20-hour road trip. Good luck, you’ll need it! And maybe pack some snacks… lots and lots of snacks. You’ll thank me later.
