How early can you security check in for a flight?
How early can you do airport security check-in?
It's so confusing, right? I've heard everything from 12 to 24 hours too. Once, flying from JFK (New York) on 15th July, I got there almost 18 hours early – just because my connecting flight landed ridiculously early. They let me through security no problem, but then I was stuck airside forever.
Airport security check-in times vary.
Another time, flying out of Heathrow (London) on 2nd November, I tried to check in about 15 hours early. They flat-out refused. Said come back closer to the flight. It cost me £20 for a locker to store my bag. Annoying!
Check with your specific airport and airline.
So yeah, it definitely depends on the airport. Maybe the airline too? I think it's whoever's at the security checkpoint that day, honestly. No one seems to know the real answer.
It's not always about TSA either.
My friend flew from O'Hare (Chicago) on 10th April, got there like 20 hours early and sailed right through. It was an international flight.
International flights may have different rules.
Honestly, I'd check the airport's website. Or call them. It's a gamble! My two cents? Don't get there too early.
