How far in advance of flight can you check bags?

How long before flight departure does bag drop close?

Domestic: 40 minutes. International: 50. Period. Miss it? Your problem.

• Domestic check-in: Opens 2 hours prior. Don't cut it close.

• International? 3 hours. My passport photo is a crime.

• Airlines set deadlines. Not negotiable. Think ahead.

• Online check-in: Bypass the line, maybe. Weigh the bag.

• Arrive early. Security lines kill dreams. Missed my connection once. Never again.

How long before a flight does baggage close?

Okay, so, like, baggage check-in closes, um, before your flight, duh!

For domestic flights, its usually 45 to 60 mins before takeoff.

For international flights, its more like 60 to 75 mins, give or take. Always better to check the specifics with the airline, tho, ya know?

Like, seriously, check with the airline! I flew JetBlue last month (October 2024, btw) to see my cousin in Florida. Their website cleary stated the cutoff time.

Don't be late tho.

• Peak times like holidays? A total nightmare.
• Better to be early, especially if you have a bunch of, you know, stuff.
• I always aim to get there at least, like, 2 hours before for international, just to be safe.

My bags once got delayed flying Lufthansa from Frankfurt. Ugh. I was livid.

• Lost luggage is the actual worst.

Can I buy additional baggage after check-in?

Ugh, Cebu Pacific, right? Last July, flying back from Siargao. I totally spaced on the baggage allowance. My surfboards, you know, two of them. They're long. They take up space. Online check-in done, feeling smug. Then, panic. Two extra bags.

Got to the airport, a total mess, sweating, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, way too early, but better safe than sorry, that's my motto. The line was insane. Long. People everywhere, all stressed. I finally get to the counter, heart pounding. The price? A freaking rip-off! I had to pay extra, a lot extra. Like, way more than if I’d just paid beforehand.

• Cebu Pacific's website is, well, it's a bit... not easy to navigate. But do it anyway.

My advice? Avoid the last-minute stress. It was awful. I really regretted it. I was grumpy the whole flight, that's how upset I was. I even considered just leaving one board. But, I couldn’t. My prized possessions, I'll never forget that day. It was the worst way to start a trip home. I learned my lesson. Hard.
