How late can I show up to a flight?

Arriving late for a flight can lead to denied boarding. Aim to arrive at least 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours for international. Check-in closes typically 45–60 minutes before departure, and boarding gates often close 15–30 minutes prior. Missing these deadlines usually means missing your flight.

Whats the latest I can arrive for my flight?

Okay, lemme tell you my experience, 'cause this has HAPPENED.

Generally, airlines have a "flat tire rule" type thing. Showing up after like, 2 hours of your flight's scheduled departure? Big no-no. Don't.

But! I once almost missed a flight...yikes.

It was a flight from JFK (New York) to LAX (Los Angeles) flight on American Airlines. I aimed to arrive 3 hours before.

Stupid me, I hit INSANE traffic on the Van Wyck. Arrived at like, T-minus 90 minutes. Sweaty palms.

Security was quick, THANK GOD! But boarding was already starting. They looked at me like I was crazy but let me on! Close call!

Think it was around $350. I bought it like, 2 weeks before? Never again!

Basically, don't risk it. Aim for 2-3 hours BEFORE. My little heart really can't take it!
