Hoi An & Da Nang Trip: How Many Days?

Okay, so how many days do ya need in Hoi An and Da Nang? Lemme tell ya from my own trip…

I’d say aim for 2-3 days in Hoi An. Plenty of time to soak in the Ancient Town.

I was there in, um, October 2022 (I think?). Got some sweet threads tailored; totally worth it, spent about 80$ USD. Loved just wandering!

Plus, that gives ya time for cooking classes, or cruisin’ around on a bike, which are really cool. An Bang beach is where you should relax!

Now, if you wanna hit My Son Sanctuary or the Marble Mountains near Da Nang? Add a day. Totally doable. Trust me.

My trip… ended up bein’ like, 5 days total? Because I get easily distracted, haha. I remember driving from Da Nang to Hoi An, it was stunning, that coastal road…

Worth it though, even with my sense of direction.

Is 2 days enough for Hoi An?

Hoi An… whispers on the wind. Two days? Enough? A sigh escapes my lips; memories flicker. The yellow walls, lanterns glowing.

Is it enough? No, not truly. Is anywhere ever truly enough? Two days offer a glimpse. A taste of magic.

Wandering Thu Bon River banks, the silk shimmering, remembering my silk dress from…oh, long ago. Lost dates. Does it matter?

Two days, if planned just so. Historical sites, of course.

  • Japanese Covered Bridge
  • Assembly Halls (Fujian, Cantonese)
  • Ancient houses (Tan Ky, Phung Hung)

Ancient town sighs… lanterns everywhere. The tailor shops beckon; get lost among the fabrics. So lost.

Specialties… Cao lầu noodles. White rose dumplings. A feast. A dance on the tongue.

A reasonable itinerary is vital. Two days…can steal your heart. Two days cannot encompass it all, but can hold it still. A snapshot of perfection. My grandmother loved Hoi An, told me always.

But how can you be brief when Hoi An calls? When dreams call, can you say no?

How long does it take to travel from Da Nang to Hoi An?

Okay, Da Nang to Hoi An… hmm. How long does it actually take?

  • 30-45 minutes, usually. Driving, of course.

Thirty… ish. Okay, so 30km. That makes sense. Traffic can be a nightmare. esp during the summer. I hate summer traffic! Ugh.

  • Distance: ~30 km

Wait, are there buses? Are they any cheaper than Grab? Prolly, yeah.

Grab is always surging.

  • Car is easiest, but not cheapest

My cousin uses a scooter. But I’m too scared to ride a scooter. Too many crazy drivers. But scooters are the fastest way to get around I think.

  • Scooter is fastest but sketchy

Is there a train even to Hoi An? Or just to Da Nang? I should google that later. Always forgetting these things. Train… Nope.

  • No train option direct

Should I take the tunnel or the coast? Coast is longer, but prettier. Hai Van Pass, that’s the one. Worth it, though.

  • Hai Van Pass = Scenic Route

Maybe I’ll just stay in Da Nang. The beach is closer, and it’s not as touristy. But Hoi An’s old town is beautiful. Ancient Town, something like that.

  • Hoi An Ancient Town is lovely

Ugh, decisions, decisions.
